You don't have to compile it, just launch it and add to the inittab. I've wrote a HOW-TO but it's in French.... It's working!

Check out the config files in etc.  Have you specified your hobbit server in it ?  And if you do, make sure the AIX hostname is specified in the bb-hosts files.
You can also check the logfiles in the directory log.
