Re: [hobbit] Implementation Assistance - New User

Hi James,

I guess you are referring to the larrd column where the vmstat output
pops up. Of course you know Hobbit calls this one trends and the
vmstat graph data is delivered like this...

...snip...
[vmstat]
procs memory swap io system cpu
r b swpd free buff cache si so bi bo in cs us sy id wa
0 0 27344 19528 169928 727420 0 0 2 3 5 4 0 0 3 0
0 0 27344 19760 169928 727492 0 0 0 6 102 25 0 0 100 0
...snip...

and portions of the output result in the (default vmstat) CPU
Utilization graph (see the hobbitgraph definition file). In this file
you see graphdefinitions for vmstat0 through vmstat9 and then decide
which graph to pop up for your particular host (See bbhosts).

Hope this helps.

Regards

Peter

Thanks Peter.

How do I see vmstat?

I see iostatdisk, iostatcpu, & vmstat running
on the client, but how do I pull up the reports?

With BB, I have a column entry for those.

Thanks...James

James,

I can help you with some of your questions;

No, the Hobbit-client software gathers all data as you said (fi.
iostat, vmstat) needed for the server to build the graph-part. The
iostat-part is currently under development (search the mailinglist for
more info) but I'm confident that Henrik will deliver some terrific
work here (again). The vmstat, needed for fi. the load-graph should
already work.

You can do that, there is no need to rush to change all clients
immedeately, but you can change in phases (first the test-systems,
see the differences and new graphs). Imho, there are lots of
improvements here, because a Hobbit-client show top-output for the
cpu-test, ps-output for the process-check, etc. So the need to login
at a system is hardly there, after you changed clients. Besides, the
Hobbit-client is consuming less resources. Best of all, the output the
os-commands generate is send to your hobbit server and can be seen and
checked! At the bottom of each test, you see the link 'Client data'.
Oh, I forgot another, even better feature: centralized management of
thresholds! Disk, memory, cpu etc. It's the server to decide and not
the client. So I think you will gain some time here ;-)
