James,
I can help you with some of your questions;
2006/11/3, James Wade <jkwade (at) futurefrontiers.com>:
I need assistance with the clients. The server is working.
2) I had larrd installed on Big Brother, and assumed that
the larrd scripts on the clients could be disabled because
Hobbit did iostat and vmstat. However, they turned purple.
So, I restarted the larrd scripts from within Hobbit. However,
they still stay purple. They don't seem to update properly.
Do you have to use larrd on the clients or does Hobbit do
an iostat, vmstat test like larrd?
No, the Hobbit-client software gathers all data as you said (fi.
iostat, vmstat) needed for the server to build the graph-part. The
iostat-part is currently under development (search the mailinglist for
more info) but I'm confident that Henrik will deliver some terrific
work here (again). The vmstat, needed for fi. the load-graph should
already work.
3) Does anyone use Hobbit for clients? I'm considering just
living my clients using Big Brother because of less implementation
hours. What's the advantage to moving to hobbit?
You can do that, there is no need to rush to change all clients
immedeately, but you can change in phases (first the test-systems,
see the differences and new graphs). Imho, there are lots of
improvements here, because a Hobbit-client show top-output for the
cpu-test, ps-output for the process-check, etc. So the need to login
at a system is hardly there, after you changed clients. Besides, the
Hobbit-client is consuming less resources. Best of all, the output the
os-commands generate is send to your hobbit server and can be seen and
checked! At the bottom of each test, you see the link 'Client data'.
Oh, I forgot another, even better feature: centralized management of
thresholds! Disk, memory, cpu etc. It's the server to decide and not
the client. So I think you will gain some time here ;-)
4) Are there any additional add-ins for hobbit, ie…. plugins
