You have not mentioned if you have also installed libpng, jpeg, etc.  These are required for RRD to work...

"Dependencies: libart_lgpl, zlib, libpng, freetype, and libgcc_s.so.1 in /usr/local/lib is required. This can be done by installing libgcc-3.4.6 or gcc-3.4.6 or later." Sunfreeware site.
