[hobbit] hobbit compile issue

Thanks to Larry and Vernon Everette for the quick replies. Your 
suggestions  (both suggested specifying LD_LIBRARY_PATH) worked like a 
charm. (moves on feeling sheepish for not thinking of that in the first 
place)

You need to add the paths to the libraries to the LD_LIBRARY_PATH 
environmental variable.
