When I run this on the old server it outputs the xml file, rather than creating the file -- It is rrdtool 1.2.11 - The version on the new server is 1.2.30
Should I be dumping this to a file? Ie rrdtool dump tcp.conn.rrd > tcp.conn.xml

Hi Brian,
you use "rrdtool dump <filename>.rrd <filename>.xml" to dump the
contents of the RRD <filename>.rrd to the XML file <filename>.xml.
Execute this for all RRDs on the old machine, and copy the .xml-files to
the new one.
Then, with "rrdtool restore <filename>.xml <filename>.rrd" rebuild the
RRDs from the XMLs on the new machine.

Having never used rrdtool. Other than for hobbit, how do I go about dumping and restoring?
And yes it was architecture change from a dell 2850, to a VM. I think I also updated the version of rrdtool.
I still have the old server so can do this from the console.
Thanks for the help BTW

Hi,
another possible reason could be different versions of RRDTool (which
can also be solved by dumping and restoring the RRDs, as suggested by
Buchan).

Are there any other differences? E.g., i386 vs x86_64 ?
, as I was moving everything else on
the box also. I recompiled hobbit (4.2.0) on the machine, and just copied
over the files. However the graphs and graph history are missing. I moved
the /home/hobbit directory and installed a fresh copy -- graphs are
visibl;e.
I'm guessing the architectures differ, and you didn't dump/reload the rrd files
(which is required if you change architectures, e.g. i386 to x86_64).

Buchan
