another possible reason could be different versions of RRDTool (whichcan also be solved by dumping and restoring the RRDs, as suggested byBuchan).

I'm guessing the architectures differ, and you didn't dump/reload the rrd files(which is required if you change architectures, e.g. i386 to x86_64).
