I think that might be an artifact from AIX. Hobbit launches processes
every 5 minutes that end. AIX keeps them around in the process list as
"defunct" instead of just getting rid of them.

I have Hobbit running on a IBM P6 lpar, with AIX 5.3 installed.
It seems about every 3-4 minutes a 'defunct' process is started by
hobbit. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing Hobbit, and
rebooting the server. The defunct processes are still being generated.
Does anyone have any idea on what is causing this? Thanks for your
help.
