/etc/crontab? (or some other central file). Root crontab entries aren't
normally in /var/spool/cron.

Unfortnately no. The root user doesn't even have a file in
/var/spool/cron.
All I can think is that one of the hobbit server processes itself is
running something on a regular basis. But that's the lesser question.
The bigger question is "what does the error mean and how do I shut it
up?" :)
