Possible, but as I understand from our ESX guys you cannot install any
kind of 3rd-party software on the ESX host without voiding your support
agreement.

In fact, ESX servers is one of the targets for my SNMP-based monitoring
tool right now.

this is not the only os with such restrictive stuff, and I guess I'm not the only one to use a hobbit client
on ESX server or other restricted OS.

anyway, this is the admin's responsibility.

I compiled a static hobbit client for an RHEL 3. It runs quite fine on esx server.
if anyone is interested, I can send it via email.
