You can use ssh or rsh to remotly execute a bb command.
Or what about mail?  You can create a script that will be triggered on 
incoming mail and execute bb.  So the clients mails the status to the hobbit 
server.

As long as the client has a network connection, there is a way to monitor it 
with hobbit.
