You can use route:router1,router2 etc so that if a higher level fails
the ping of the host will change to yellow instead of red. You would
then configure your alerting to only alert on reds. Other tests go white
when the ping test fails anyway.

Does the feature exist within Hobbit to define an alert dependency such
that if router x is down, and/or switch is down, don't alert on the
stuff
behind it that's failing if they're defined to be dependent on those
devices? I've been told that nagios does support this.
