Did you add the 'ncv' entry to the GRAPHS section in hobbitserver.cfg?
See the last  paragraph in Henrik's graphing HOWTO.

This was the solution to my previously reported problem.
I found that without it, I got status messages in rrd-status.log but no
updating of the rrd.
