Good sleuthing. We disabled the policy (it was active), removed and
reinstalled Hobbit (we had mucked a lot with the original install trying
to fix), and restarted. Bingo, works out of the box!!!

Philippe,
I believe that FC4 ships with SELinux enabled. Is there a corresponding
selinux policy violation message appearing in your /var/log/messages
file?
If so, then you need to tune or disable your policy. You may want to do
a search for audit2allow, selinux-policy-targeted-sources, and FC4.
