Scalability?

I've browsed through the web docs on Hobbit, but I'm new to the list.
I'm currently running Big Brother (BTF) *without* BBGen (Don't ask). I
would be thrilled to make my life easier by installing a product that
already includes the BBGen functionality. I'm confused by something
tho... The website says there is no client-side implementation. My
current BB client installs include custom scripts I've written to work
with custom protocols and apps, some of which we've patented, so it's
not likely this would be something included in Hobbit. It's also not
something that could be tested with SNMP. Would Hobbit still work for
me?

We're monitoring over 1000 machines currently and this number will be
greatly increasing in the near future. I was looking for something more
scalable that doesn't include Nagios (hate it), and is something
familiar and similar to BB.  Thanks.
