By far, the easiest option is to install from a package. Generally this 
will automatically configure a working system for you, and all you will 
need to do is modify various config files. You may not be able to find 
the latest version already packaged, but I would still suggest to use a 
packaged version initially. Later, when you better understand how it 
works, you should be able to download the latest version, and update to 
that.
