A-ha! I found a slightly useful option to xymongen:
> --eventignore=test[,test]
>     Ignore these tests in the "All non-green" event log display.

The garbage will still arrive, and I'll have to handle it, but it won't 
be able to flush the rest of the useful messages off the event-list.
