[Xymon] [Newbie] Smaller, lighter Xymon based program?

Xymon seems like a LOT of overhead for a simple ping test.
What about something like bash?
while true; do
until ping -c1 -W2 192.168.1.1 &>/dev/null; do
sleep 3
done
echo "ping success"
