That is correct. If you use the same version of rrd-tools (v1 or v2) on both systems, then you don't have to do anything. If you have v1 on the old system and v2 on the new, you have to rrdtool xport or run rrdxport on the old (read the man pages on how to do it) and then import the resultant XML files on the new server.

So if I move the /home/xymon
tree to the new system, this will do most of the heavy lifting?
Then, how do I export and import
the files?
Thanks,

depending
on the version of rrd-tools, you may have to export and then import your rrd
files, but you should be able to copy everything else from the old data folder
structure over and maintain your history. I just completed this 3 months
ago.

I will be building a new (replacement) Dell R-series server
to replace the Dell PC that is currently running the xymon services.
The new server is 64-bit.
I run Cent-OS 32-bit on the PC and need to move the PC info
to the R-series server.
Should I just rebuild xymon and move over the bb-hosts,
hobbit-alerts.cfg and www/notes files?
And just let the server begin to gather data or is it easy
to get the history information from the PC to the new server?
I am and will be running 4.3.0-0.beta2.
I will need to change the IP address after I have built the
new server to the PC’s IP Address as everyone is using this server.
Thanks,
Tom Schmitt
