Monitoring modbus devices

Hi,
 
I want to see if any one is using Hobbit to monitor devices such as
generators, process coolers, fire supression systems that talk modbus
and if you are how are you doing it.
 
There are various options that I can see in my research.
 
There is a modbus library for Linux which may enable a way of receiving
the data and then using a script to alert on it.
There are also modbus to snmp convertors like the babel buster which can
be used with devmon.
