Are you wrapping $BBALPHAMSG in double quotes in your script??  If you do
something like:

    echo $BBALPHAMSG | mailx .....

that will strip out the linefeeds.  Put quotes around it and you get the
message verbatim:

   echo "$BBALPHAMSG" | mailx ....
