Very good idea Trent and Galen, that was it - typo.

mail2:/home/hobbit/client/ext # su hobbit
hobbit at mail2:~/client/ext> /home/hobbit/client/ext/bb-smart.sh
bash: /home/hobbit/client/ext/bb-smart.sh: /usr/bin/bash: bad 
interpreter: No such file or directory
