Odd error when running custom script

So I'm getting an error when trying to run a custom script.  I've done 
this many times but maybe I'm missing something simple?

mail2:/home/hobbit/client/logs # tail -f bb-smart.log

Pretty straight forward, right?  But it's there and owned by user hobbit 
. . .
