Spaces should work but we use \s to represent spaces.

Example:

LOG /var/adm/messages.da 
%(?-i)Fail|fail|On\sbattery|AC\sline\sfault|Replace\sbattery|Battery\snot 
COLOR=yellow

The (?-i) tells pcre to turn case-sensitive pattern matching on.
