The clients don't listen on port 1984, the server does. The clients
initiate connection to the server, not the other way around.
OK, my mistake - they are not doing it. The Server shows all the
clients (except itself) are red under bbd.
So now I go to the client and login as the hobbit user and I can
telnet to the server on port 1984
and I can run bb:
hobbit (at) ap1:~/client/bin$ ./bb --debug 10.1.90.22 "query
ap1.lax1.boredat.com conn"
2007-08-22 11:19:00 Transport setup is:
2007-08-22 11:19:00 bbdportnumber = 1984
2007-08-22 11:19:00 bbdispproxyhost = NONE
2007-08-22 11:19:00 bbdispproxyport = 0
2007-08-22 11:19:00 Recipient listed as '10.1.90.22'
2007-08-22 11:19:00 Standard BB protocol on port 1984
2007-08-22 11:19:00 Will connect to address 10.1.90.22 port 1984
2007-08-22 11:19:00 Connect status is 0
2007-08-22 11:19:00 Sent 31 bytes
2007-08-22 11:19:00 Closing connection
So the client appears to be working (yes?)
Back on the server bbd is still red and if I click on it (the red
icon under bbd) I see the message:
Service bbd on ap1.lax1.boredat.com is not OK : Service unavailable
(Connection refused)
How can I debug this?
Frank

Subject: [hobbit] client problems - connection refused
I'm doing a new installation of Hobbit. I followed the directions
from
the web and got to "Congratulations, you now have a running Hobbit
server!" without problems.
Then I added a few clients - the Hobbit server seems to be working
fine
(immediately as they showed up in the web page http and conn went
green)
but I cannot seem to get the client installed and working
correctly. I
tar-ed and copied the client directory to each client machine,
created a
hobbit user there and setup the ~hobbit/client/ directory.
I can launch the client:
runclient.sh start
and the client/logs/clientlaunch.log shows it started; ps -ef shows
it's still running - but client/logs/hobbitclient.log is empty
I cannot telnet to the clients on port 1984 - so naturally the hobbit
server thinks bbd is dead.
Do I have to build the hobbit client on all the clients? Or have I
missed something else?
Thanks,
Frank
