Seems that I give you the answer :-) 

Is it going to be supported in the future, or should I downgrade my freebsd
ports tree to got the 1.2.10 version.

Since it works with the 1.2.10 version of the RRD library, but fails
with 1.2.11 I'd say that yes - this is an RRDtool library problem.
