[Xymon] analysis.cfg question

I thought using CLASS:tag would accomplish this...the man pages and the doc embedded in the analysis.cfg file read this way. However, it seems that it may ONLY be for FILE tests. It would be damn handy if this could be extended to support any test. Since the systems I'm trying to monitor in the various regions are groups of the same systems, it's a bit of a pain to have to set up the HOST= for all those systems...even with regex. Just being able to use the class would streamline the config files greatly. (hint, hint, Henrik :-) ). If anyone has actually been able to use this in this fashion, I would love to know. For now, I'm going to have to brute force it.

Hi all,

It makes me think of a feature that would be very nice...

The ability to create a configuration based on "tags" and so one would be able to build confs without listing explicitly machines inside

page mygroup
group-compress mywww
0.0.0.0 www1 # http://www1/
0.0.0.0 www2 # http://www2/
0.0.0.0 www3 # http://www3/
...

Would become

page mygroup
group-compress-on-tag mywww tag=mywww
0.0.0.0 clientname # http://clientname/

And the group would be dynamic (the number of machines is not relevant)... and the line of config would be based on a template line

For EC2 hosts, I changed MACHINEDOTS variable in runclient.sh on xymon client.
eg.
MACHINEDOTS=hostname.example.com<http://hostname.example.com>

On server side, no need to use CLIENT or NAME in hosts.cfg, just use the name which is defined in client's MACHINEDOTS.

Is it possible to key on the "NAME:" or "CLIENT:" definition instead of HOST? Monitoring several systems in EC2 and all the servers have hosts defined as ec2-12-34-56-78.blah.blah.blah.
