Check the archives. This has been answered in the past. I think TJ Yang may even have captured it on his wiki site.

Need linux 2.6 source on the machine to compile it.
Don’t want to mess with the kernel anyway – keep it easy for someone else to duplicate.
Any other ideas are gladly appreciated!

Have you looked at CARP?

Is there documentation for setting up a High Availability (HA) pair of servers for xymon?
I have a Dell R-series server (new) and a Dell 1850 server that I can use.
I have created a SCRIPT and RSYNC between the two servers that the 1850 watches the R-series.
If the R-series fails to answer, the 1850 will then get the files from the RSYNC directory (edit a few items), install the hobbit-alerts.cfg file and take over the primary responsibilities of alerting.
Both systems currently have to watch over all devices – not efficient.
I copy over the files from each server every hour – thus also having a backup of each servers special files.

HA is the appropriate solution, is it possible? Is there a write-up on how to set it up?

Thanks,

Tom Schmitt
